IV fluids

0.9% NS (Isotonic) | good for low fluid volume deficit (hypotensive), Always used when giving blood |
D5W (isotonic) | 5% dextrose in water, used for energy, good for Hypernatremia & treating hypovolemia |
D5.2NS ( Isotonic) | Used for daily Maintenance |
Ringers lactate (isotonic) | combo of different lytes (lactate breaks down to Bi carb so it is used for acidosis |
D10W (hypertonic) | High dextrose & water good for hypoglycemia |
3% NaCl (Hypertonic) | Used to decrease cellular edema & hyponatremia. You must monitor lung sounds and watch for pulmonary edema. |
D5.45NS (hypertonic) | Used for 2nd day post op. Pulls out fluid that may be retained in the interstitial space. Helps promote renal function |
0.45NS | Good for client with normal BP But has Hypernatrima |
