When the question, "how should each state be represented in Congress?" was raised, what compromise was made? The Great Compromise was made. It created two branches of Congress. Senate --> equal representation House of Representatives --> representation based on population.
When the question, "should slaves count towards representation?" was raised, what compromise was made? The 3/5 compromise was made. For every 5 slaves, 3 were counted towards the states population which later would affect the amount of representatives a state was allowed in the House of Representatives.
What is the Northwest Ordinance of 1787? 1. Divided up western territories into smaller ones 2. Established a procedure for admitting new states into the Union
What was Shay's Rebellion? It took place in Massachusetts, 1786. Farmers were losing their farms due to debt and bad crops. Daniel Shay led a rebellion against the local government. This made many realize that the lack of a national army under the AOC was a danger to US citizens.
What is the 1st Amendment? Freedom of... 1. Press 2. Religion 3. Assembly 4. Speech And the right to petition against the government.
What is the 2nd Amendment? The right to bear arms.
What is the 3rd Amendment? The government CANNOT require people to house solders during wartime.
What is the 4th Amendment? Protects people from unreasonable search and seizure. Authorities must have a warrant and probable cause.
What is the 5th Amendment? No person can be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process.
What is the 6th Amendment? Guarantees the right to trial by jury in CRIMINAL case.
What is the 7th Amendment? Guarantees the right to trial by jury in CIVIL case.
What is the 8th Amendment? Prohibits excess bails, fines, and punishments.
What is the 9th Amendment? Declares that any right not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution belongs to the people.
What is the 10th Amendment? Duties not given to the national government belong to the states or the people.
