TermDefinition
Angles the amount between two rays that have same endpoint(vertex). Measured in degrees
Right Angle An angle measuring 90°.
Acute Angle An angle measuring less than 90°
Obtuse Angle An angle measuring more than 90°
Straight Angle An angle measuring 180°.
Degrees a unit for measuring the size of an angle, symbol º.
Protractor an instrument used to measure angles in degrees.
Rays A line with a start point but no end point
Vertex (Vertices) A point where two or more rays of an angle meet
Line of symmetry line that divides a figure into two congruent parts, each of which is the mirror image of the other
Parallel same distance apart and never touching
Perpendicular Intersecting lines that form right angles.
Square a quadrilateral with four equal sides and four right angles;
Rectangle a quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite equal parallel sides, four right angles .
Right Trapezoid a trapezoid with a right angle
Quadrilateral A polygon with 4 sides and 4 angles
Parallelogram a quadrilateral with opposite sides that are parallel and opposite angles that are equal.
Rhombus A quadrilateral with 4 equal sides and opposite sides are parallel.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.
Acute triangle A triangle with 3 acute angles
Obtuse triangle A triangle with one obtuse angle.
Right triangle A triangle with one right angle.
Polygons A closed figure with three or more straight sides.
Perimeter The distance around a figure.
Area The size a surface takes up, measured in square units
Attribute A characteristic of a shape.
Classify To arrange in groups by attribute
Line Segment A section of a line, with two endpoints
Intersect To cross over one another.
Intersecting Lines Lines that to cross over one another.
Figure Shape
Horizontal Line A line parallel to the horizon.
Vertical Line A line at right angles to the horizon.
