Adverse Childhood Experiences | traumatic events that occur during childhood (0-17) and have lasting negative effects on health, well-being, and opportunity Linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood |
categories of ACEs | Abuse: physical, emotional, sexual, verbal Neglect: physical, emotional Household Dysfunction: mental illness, incarcerated relative, mother treated violently, substance abuse, divorce |

sex-trafficking | occurs when individuals are made to perform commercial sex through use of force, fraud, or coercion Child under 18 years of age considered victim of trafficking if involved in commercial sex |
