What is the most foundational part of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and why? Physiologic, because you need to meet that before reaching the higher levels... you need oxygen to survive, you cannot do anything else without it!
Lowest (priority) --> Highest on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs 1. Physiologic 2. Safety and Security 3. Love and Belonging 4. Self-esteem 5. Self-actualization
Safety and Security Needs Second priority ; both physical (falling) and emotional (fear and anxiety) components of being protected from harm (Preventing falling by providing a walker)
Love and Belonging Needs Third priority ; the understanding and acceptance of others in both giving and receiving love ; unmet needs result in loneliness and isolation (Trusting relationship between nurse and patient)
Self Esteem Needs Fourth priority ; the need for a person to feel good about themselves and feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment ; body image and role changes can affect this
Self Actualization Needs Last priority ; acceptance to self and other people/feeling good about yourself and others ; focus interest on problems outside yourself
What is a family? A group of people who live together, related or not related
What is a community? A group of people in the same geographic area that share common interests
What risk factors alter family health? -Lifestyle(lack of knowledge, substance abuse, lack of healthcare) -Psychosocial(family conflict, inadequate income) -Environmental(clean or unclean home, neighborhood safety) -Developmental(adding or taking away a family member) -Biological(genetics)
What affects community health? -Social support systems -Community health care structure -Economic resources -Effect on individuals and families -Numbers of hospitals, clinics, school side-walks, police stations, crime levels
What affects environmental health? -Quality of air -Climate changes/crisis -Climate actions -Reducing waste in clinical settings
