Acid | Any compound that increases the number of hydronium ions when dissolved in water |
Base | Any compound that increases hydroxide ions when dissolved in a solution of water |
Indicator | A compound that can reversibly change color depending on the pH of a solution or other chemical change |
Electrolyte | A substance that dissolves in water to give a solution that conducts an electric current |
Hydroxide Ion | Ion consisting of O and H and has a negative charge |
Hydronium Ion | Ion consisting of three (3) H and one (1) O and has a positive charge |
Salt | Any ionically bonded combination of cation and anion |
Neutralization reaction | A reaction between and acid and a base |
Water and a salt | The products of a neutralization reaction |
pH of 7 | Neutral pH |
Soap | Can dissolve in both water and oil |
Indicator | Changes color with a change in pH; litmus paper |
Disinfectant | Kills bacteria and viruses |
10 times stronger (or weaker) | The difference between two adjacent numbers on the pH scale |
Equivalence point | Point in titration where amount of acid equals the amount of base |
