Identify and describe proper use and maintenance of the following equipment:
Term | Definition |

1. Operator stool | Used for the dentist or dental hygienist (or dental assistant, if providing direct patient care) to sit on. It has controls to adjust the height of the seat, height of the back rest, and back support. |
2. Assistant stool | Used for the dental assistant to sit on. I has controls to adjust height of seat, abdominal rest, back support and height of the footrest. |
3. Dental chair | used for patient to sit/lie back in. It has a headrest, backrest, leg rest, and arm rests. There are controls to adjust the headrest and back leg supports. |
4. Operating light | Used to provide illumination |
5. Air water syringe | Used to dry, rinse, and/ or clean the oral cavity or other items during dental procedures. can use a combination of air/water spray, also referred to as 3 way syringe. Press on both the air and water buttons together to use a combination of air and water. |
6. Oral evacuation system | the process of removing excess fluid and debris from the patient's mouth. The oral evacuator is used throughout each dental procedure. The two types of oral evacuation systems include saliva ejectors and high-volume evacuators. |
7. Curing light | Light used to harden "light cured" dental materials. |
8. Tritruator | Dental triturators are designed for mixing dental materials packaged in capsules. |
9. Amalgamator | A device used to mix amalgam alloy and mercury. |
10. Rheostat (foot control) | One of the several ways to control power to the unit is by a foot control called a rheostat. |
11. X-ray systems | Used to expose intraoral radiographs. |
12. Autoclave | strong heated container used for chemical reactions and other processes using high pressures and temperatures, e.g. steam sterilization. |
13. Ultrasonic cleaner | Ultrasonic cleaning is a process that uses ultrasound to agitate a fluid, with a cleaning effect. |
