Structure An objects __structure__ is its shape or form
Function An object’s __function__ is the action it performs or the role it plays.
Interaction An __interaction__ occurs when two or more things work together or affect one another.
System A __system__ is a group of parts that work together to perform a function or produce a result.
Cell A _cell_ is the basic unit of structure and function in a living thing.
Tissue A __tissue__ is a group of similar cells that perform the same function.
Organ An __organ__ is a structure that is made up of different kinds of tissue.
Organ System An __organ system__ is a group of organs that work together, carrying out major functions.
Order of how System Forms Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System
Skeletal System Structure Bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons
Skeletal System Function Supports body; protects internal organs; allows movement; stores minerals; produces blood cells
Integumentary System Structure Skin, hair, nails, sweat glands, oil glands
Integumentary System Function Guards against infection and injury; helps regulate body temperature
Muscular System Structure Skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle
Muscular System Function With skeletal system, produces movement; helps circulate blood and move food through the digestive system
Circulatory System Structure Blood vessels, heart
Circulatory System Function Transports oxygen, nutrients, and wastes; fights infection; helps regulate body temperature
