Lead apron artifact | radiopaque cone shaped artifact, or a bilateral radiopaque artifact that obscures the mandible | lead apron without thyroid collar |
Position of lips and tongue | if not closed on the bite block, dark radiolucent shadow obscures anterior teeth. If the tongue is not positioned at the roof of the mouth, dark radiolucent shadow obscures maxillary teeth | close lips around bite block, raise tongue to palate |
chin tipped up | frankfort plane is angled upward: condyles may not be visible, hard palate may appear superimposed over the roots of maxillary teeth, max incisors may be blurred or magnified. Smile line curved downward | frankfort plane passes from the bottom of the eye socket through the top of the ear canal |
