Pano Imaging Errors

Ghost Image image on opposite side, magnified, higher position than the real image have patient remove all dense objects from the head and neck region
Lead apron artifact radiopaque cone shaped artifact, or a bilateral radiopaque artifact that obscures the mandible lead apron without thyroid collar
Position of lips and tongue if not closed on the bite block, dark radiolucent shadow obscures anterior teeth. If the tongue is not positioned at the roof of the mouth, dark radiolucent shadow obscures maxillary teeth close lips around bite block, raise tongue to palate
chin tipped up frankfort plane is angled upward: condyles may not be visible, hard palate may appear superimposed over the roots of maxillary teeth, max incisors may be blurred or magnified. Smile line curved downward frankfort plane passes from the bottom of the eye socket through the top of the ear canal
chin tipped down condyles are positioned higher on the image, hyoid bone forms single widened line, mandibular incisors appear blurred, roots may appear short, exaggerated smile line appears frankfort plane parallel to the floor
teeth anterior to focal trough anterior teeth appear narrow and out of focus on the image. Pronounced overlap of the premolars may be seen teeth end to end and positioned in the groove of the bite block
Teeth posterior to the focal trough teeth appear blurred and widened. roots of anterior teeth may appear to be cut off teeth positioned in the groove on the bite block
head turned ramus and posterior teeth on one side of the image appear larger than those on the other side. midsaggital plane is perpendicular to the floor and midline centered on teh bite stick
slumped posture cervical spine appears as a radiopacity in the center of the image and obscures diagnostic information ask patient to sit or stand 'as tall as possible" or 'step forward slightly closer to the machine
