Conception Through Young Adulthood

Adolescence the period of time between childhood and adulthood; a time of rapid physical change, reproductive maturity, and emotional development
Attachment active, affectionate, reciprocal relationship between two persons
Bonding process of initial emotional fusing of the mother and infant that occurs most often in the first few hours after birth and is necessary for later attachment
Child Maltreatment an act or series of acts of commission (abuse) or omission (neglect) by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child
Colic acute abdominal pain caused by spasmodic contractions of the intestine during the first 3 months of life
Faulire to thrive (FTT) physical and developmental retardation of infants or children resulting from physical or emotional neglect
Negativism negative verbalizations and behaviors
Neonate period from birth to 28 days of age
Preschooler period from ages 3 to 6 years
Puberty period during which primary and secondary sexual characteristics develop and the capability of sexual reproduction is attained
Regression behavior that is more characteristic of an earlier age
School-aged child period from ages 6 to 12 years
Seperation Anxiety condition that occurs when a child is afraid of being sent away from caregivers who are loved and who provide security
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's) disease that spreads from one person to another through intimate sexual contact
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) sudden death of an infant under the age of 1 year when consideration of the infant’s history, a postmortem examination, and investigation of the scene of the death fail to reveal a cause of death
Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) a broad term for sudden infant deaths in which the manner and cause of death cannot readily be identified prior to an investigation
Temperament person’s style of approaching people, situations, or events
Toddler period from ages 1 to 3 years
Young Adult adult between the ages of 20 and 40 years
