What is Anemia? | A reduction in red blood cells, erythrocytes or hemoglobin which causes a decrease carry capacity of the blood. |
Most anemia's result from what? | Blood loss, inadequate/abnormal erythrocyte production, destruction of narmally formed RBC. All anemias share a common core of symptoms. |
What are Signs and Symptoms of Anemia | orthostatic hypotension, oliguria heart murmur, rapid pulse, tachycardia, tachypnea, cool clammy skin, acidosis, HA, decrease bowel sounds, chest discomfort. |
What is the hematopoietic system | Plasma, Pluriponent stem cell, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets |
What is the Lymphatic system | Thymus Gland, Spleen, Lymph Nodes and Lymph |
Diagnostic test | CBC, PT/coumadin, Fibrinogen leve shows how much bleeding and how long it takes it to clott, APT, D-dimer, Factor assays, bone marrow aspiration, Schillings Test |

bone marrow aspiration (BMA) | Invasive procedure, need consent signed, always check for allergies, pt will lay on back or side, distract pt to avoid them from focusing on the proc., limit activity for 30 min. after procedure, monitor puncture site for continual bleeding/infection |
