What happens during puberty? reproductive systems mature, secondary sex characteristics appear
When does puberty end? when sperm are formed or menstrual cycle occurs
The beginning of puberty in girls begins at what age and with what developements? 11-15 yrs of age with the developement of breasts and 1st menstruation about 2-2 1/2 years later
At what age and with what developements does puberty begin in boys? 10 - 16 yrs of age with deepening of voice, maturation of genitalia, hair on face, pubic area and body
What are the two functions of the penis? the penis is a duct to expel urine and deposits sperm into the vagina
What is the other part of the male external genitalia besides the penis? suspended sac called the scrotum that contains the testes
What is the purpose of the testes? spermatogenesis, manufacture of male germ cells (spermatazoa) or sperm
Why are the testes suspended away from the body in the sac like scrotum? keeps the testes away from the body thus lowering the temperature of sperm, heat shortens the lifespan of sperm
As the female reproductive organs mature to prepare for sexual activity and child bearing what else happens? growth spurt, hips broaden, pelvis assumes wide basin shape needed for birth, pubic and axillary hair appear
