Masseteric-parotid fascia | covers masseter muscle and structures inferior to zygomatic arch. Surrounds parotid salivary gland |
Pterygoid fascia | Located on medial surface ofmedial pterygoid muscle |
Deep Cervical fascia | From external to internal and continuous with each other: Investing fascia, Carotid Sheath, Visceral fascia, Buccopharyngeal fascia, Vertebral fascia |
Investing fascia | Surrounds neck continuing onto masseteric-parotid fascia, splits around and encloses submandibular and parotid glands, and SCM and trapezius muscles. Covers roof of ant and post cervical triangles, surrounds infrahyoid muscles. Runs Hyoid-Sternum |
Carotid sheath | Runs inferiorly along each side of neck, contains internal carotid and common carotid arteries and internal jugular vein, as well as Vagus nerve (X). Borders vascular compartment of neck |
Visceral fascia | Runs inferiorly along each side of neck, covers floor of anterior cervical triangle. Contains trachea, esophagus and thyroid gland, borders visceral compartment of neck |
Vertebral fascia | covers the spinal cord, cervical vertebrae, and associated vertebral muscles, covers floor of posterior cervical triangle. borders the vertebral compartment of neck |
Alar fascia | runs from base of skull to connect with visceral fascia inferiorly in neck |
Buccopharyngeal fascia | Encloses entire superior part of alimentary canal: continuous with fascia covering buccinator muscle where it comes together with the superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle at the pterygomandibular raphe |
