The Homestead Act (1862) any citizen could claim 160 acres of public land & could purchase it 4 a small fee after living on it for 5 yrs
The Morrill Land Grant Act (1862) transferred public acreage to the state govts, which were 2 sell the land & use the proceeds to finance public education
The National Bank Acts (1863-1864) created a new national banking systemcreated a uniform system of national bank notes
The Confiscation Act (1861) declared that all slaves used for "insurrectionary" purposes (tht is in support of the Confederate military effort) wud b considered freed
Emancipation Proclamation declared forever free slaves in all areas of the Confederacy, except those already under Union control
The Tenure of Office Act (1867) forbade the president to remove civil officials (cabinet members) w/out consent from 2/3s of the Senate
the Command of the Army Act prohibited the president from issuing military orders except through the commanding general of the army (General Grant)
the Specie Resumption Act declared tht the greenback dollars wud b redeemed by the govt & replaced w/new certificates, firmly pegged 2 the price of gold
the Klu Klux Klan Acts prohibited states from discrimonating vs voters on the basis of race & gave the federal govt power 2 supersede the state
the Chinese Exclusion Act banned Chinese immigration into the US for 10 yrs. & barred chinese already in the US from becoming naturalized citizens.

The Timber & Stone Act (1878) authorized sales @ $2.50/acre
the Dawes Severalty Act/the Dawes Act (1887) provided 4 the gradual elimination of tribal ownership of land & the aliotment of tracts to individual owners: 160 acres 2 head of family. 80 acres to a single adult/orphan. 40 acres to a dependent child
the Labor Contract Law allowed industrial employers to pay 4 the passage of workers in advance & deduct the amount later from their wages
the Pendleton Act 1st national civil service measure. required tht some federal jobs be filled by competitive written exams (which wud determined who was qualified) rather than by patronage
Sherman Antitrust Act passed 2 help deflect public criticism but ended up having no impact on corporate power
the Interstate Commerce Act (1887) banned discrimination in rates btwn long & short hauls. required RRs 2 publish their rate schedules & file them w/the govt
the Sherman Silver Purchase Act (1890) required govt 2 buy silver & pay 4 it in gold
the Foraker Act ended military rule & established a formal colonial govt (in Puerto Rico)
the Jones Act declared Puerto Rico 2b US territory & made all Puerto Ricans American citizens
the Hepburn RR Regulation Act (1906) tried 2 restore some regularity authority to the govt. allowed the Interstate Commerce Commission to set max RR rates

the Meat Inspection Act required the meat processing plants be inspected 2 ensure the use of good meats
the National Reclamation Act aka: the Newlands Actprovided federal funds 4 the construction of dams, reservoirs, & canals in the West
the Federal Reserve Act created 12 regional banks of its district
the Federal Trade Commission Act created a regulatory agency tht wud help businesses determine in advance whether their actions wud b acceptable 2 the govt
the Keating Owen Act 1st federal law regulating child labor. prohibited the shipment of goods produced by underage children across state lines
the Smith-Lever Act (1914) offered matching federal grants 2 support agricultural extenstion education
