virulogic failure HIV still detectable in blood 48 weeks after starting treatment or is detected again after viral load was undetectable
immunologic failure CD4 decreases further or does not increase within 1st year of therapy
clinical failure opportunistic infection or decline in health after at least 3 months on ARV therapy
nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor contains faulty imitation of T-cells nucleotides which prevents formation of the double strand DNA
non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor attach to the reverse transcriptase enzyme preventing it from functioning
protease inhibitors binds to protease enzyme and prevents separation of substances
