National Student Nurses Association An organization for nursing students, which seeks to promote the profession and provide opportunities for leadership and scholarship.
Lifelong Learning Nurses educating themselves to keep current and maintain their license.
Scope of Practice Defines those duties that a nurse is considered competent to carry out and authorized to perform as defined by state law.
Standards of Professional Performance Define competent behavior of all registered nurses and licensed practical nurses where care is provided in an ethical manner with respect for cultural diversity.
NCLEX A national computer-adapted standardized, graded, pass/fail test used to determine if a graduate nurse is ready to become licensed as an entry-level nurse.
Nurse Licensure Compact An agreement that allows nurses to practice in other NLC states without having to obtain a license in said state.

What is a advanced beginner nurse? A nurse has some level of experience, often observational, but they are able to identify meaningful aspects or principles.
What is a competent nurse? The competent nurse is able to prioritize tasks by drawing on past experiences. These nurses may not function with the same speed or ease of change as proficient nurses, but they have mastery in multiple areas. Competent nurses recognize patterns.
What is a proficient nurse? The proficient nurse is able to understand the bigger picture or the desired outcomes. They are also able to respond to changing plans and modify plans in the face of a new challenge.
Care Provider A care provider is a person or entity that provides medical care or treatment. Healthcare providers include doctors, nurse practitioners, etc.
Case Manager Works with they client, family and health care team to ensure that the client receives the needed services.
Researcher A care provider who utilizes research to provide evidence based care.
Educator A care provider who teaches the patient about critical knowledge that the patient can use for self intervention.
Leader A nurse who builds strong leadership and pushes effective communication. The nurse who has a plan and achieves goals.
Nurse Manager An assigned leadership role, the role of the Nurse manager is to meet the needs of the healthcare system, make sure their subordinates perform the task to the best of their ability and quality control.
Communication The one true personal way nurses can convey trust, empathy, understanding and cultural consideration.
National Academy of Medicine A private, nonprofit organization created by the federal government to provide science-based advice on matters of medicine and health. Formerly called the Institute of Medicine (IOM)
