Alternate Site Testing (AST) POCT is also known as Alternate Site Testing
Ancillary Blood Glucose Test is performed at the bedside, most often for patients with diabetes mellitus
Cardiac Cycle refers to one complete heartbeat. Set of events in one complete heartbeat.
Cardiac Troponin I (cardiac Tnl) Part of protein complex in cardiac muscle that aids the interaction of actin and myosin; elevated in heart attack
Cardiac Troponin T (cardiac TnT) part of protein complex in cardiac muscle that aids the interaction of actin and myosin; elevated in a heart attack
Conduction System Electrical impulse spread out from there through the hearts conduction system, triggering the coordination contraction of the heart muscle
Depolarization Contraction of the heart
Electrocardiography Is a method for recording the electrical activity of the heart.
Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) Output tracing of electrocardiography
Point-of-care testing (POCT) refers to the performance of analytic tests immediately after obtaining a sample, often in the same room that the patient is seen in.
P wave Part of the normal electrocardiogram tracing
Q-T interval ischemia may be associated with elongation of the Q-T interval
Rapid group A Blood tests typically performed at the point of care include many tests in hematology , coagulation, and chemistry
Streptococcus (Strep)
Repolarization Relaxation and recovery of the heart after contractions
Sinoatrial node the contraction is triggered and coordinated by electrical impulse from the heart pacemaker called the sinoatrial node
ST segment vg myocardial injury may cause elevation of the ST segment above its normal position
Stylus The wires pass to the ECG machine through a cable. The tracing is made on heat- and pressure- sensitive paper by a stylus
T wave Part of the normal electrocardiogram tracing
