Question | Answer |
---|---|
Alternate Site Testing (AST) | POCT is also known as Alternate Site Testing |
Ancillary Blood Glucose Test | is performed at the bedside, most often for patients with diabetes mellitus |
Cardiac Cycle | refers to one complete heartbeat. Set of events in one complete heartbeat. |
Cardiac Troponin I (cardiac Tnl) | Part of protein complex in cardiac muscle that aids the interaction of actin and myosin; elevated in heart attack |
Cardiac Troponin T (cardiac TnT) | part of protein complex in cardiac muscle that aids the interaction of actin and myosin; elevated in a heart attack |
Conduction System | Electrical impulse spread out from there through the hearts conduction system, triggering the coordination contraction of the heart muscle |
Depolarization | Contraction of the heart |
Electrocardiography | Is a method for recording the electrical activity of the heart. |
Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) | Output tracing of electrocardiography |
Point-of-care testing (POCT) | refers to the performance of analytic tests immediately after obtaining a sample, often in the same room that the patient is seen in. |
P wave | Part of the normal electrocardiogram tracing |
Q-T interval | ischemia may be associated with elongation of the Q-T interval |
Rapid group A | Blood tests typically performed at the point of care include many tests in hematology , coagulation, and chemistry |
Streptococcus | (Strep) |
Repolarization | Relaxation and recovery of the heart after contractions |
Sinoatrial node | the contraction is triggered and coordinated by electrical impulse from the heart pacemaker called the sinoatrial node |
ST segment vg | myocardial injury may cause elevation of the ST segment above its normal position |
Stylus | The wires pass to the ECG machine through a cable. The tracing is made on heat- and pressure- sensitive paper by a stylus |
T wave | Part of the normal electrocardiogram tracing |
