perspective a point of view or general standpoint from which different things are viewed, physically or mentally.
restraints a device that stops or slows something's motion
imposed set forth authoritatively as obligatory
argument facts or reasoning offered to support a position as being true
prosecutor a person, especially a public official, who institutes legal proceedings against someone
ethos a rhetorical appeal that focuses on the character or qualifications of the speaker.
logos a rhetorical appeal to the reader's or listener's senses or emotions through connotative language and imagery.
pathos a rhetorical appeal to the reader's or listener's senses or emotions through connotative language and imagery.
debate a discussion involving opposing points of view; v. to present the sides of an argument by discussing opposing points.
forfeiture The loss or giving up something as a penalty for wrong doing.
cognate related to or coming from the same source.
sound exhibiting or based on thorough knowledge and experience.
controversy a public debate or dispute concerning a matter of opinion
debatable not certain because people can have a different ideas and opinions about the thing being discussed, arguable, questionable
non-debatable factual and not open to question or refutation
research to locate information from a variety of sources; the information found from investigating a variety of sources
refute to prove to be false
accuracy How close a measurement to the true value
validity the ability of a test to measure what it is intended to measure
authority a reliable respected source - someone with knowledge
currency a system of money in general, used in a particular country
concurrently existing o happening at the same time
deterioration the process of becoming worse
conclusive putting a end to doubt; convincing
consensus general agreement
prohibition the action of forbidding something, especially by law.
thesis/claim focus statement of an essay, premise statement upon which the point of view or discussion in the essay is based.
reasoning the process of drawing a conclusion on the basis of evidence
counterclaim reasoning or facts given in opposition to an argument
rebuttal a counterargument, especially in debate
persuasion a point of view or general standpoint from which different things are viewed, physically or mentally; the appearance to the eye of various objects at a given time, place, or distance
analogy a comparison of two different things that are similar in some way
anecdote a short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person
