Diuretics: Lasix (furosemide); Hydrodiuril (hydrochlorothiazide); Aldactone (spironolactone) | increase urine production; may cause potassium loss, weakness, dry mouth, headache, orthostatic hypotension; potassium depletion may result in confusion; encourage fluids; monitor weight and edema |
Potassium Replacements: K-Dur, Micro-K; potassium chloride | replace potassium; may cause stomach irritation; give with food or after meals to help prevent gastric irritation |
Urinary Anti-spasmodics/Bladder Control Meds: Urecholine (ethanechol); Ditropan | relax smooth muscles of bladder; control urgency and frequency; may cause dysuria, tachycardia, dry mouth, blurred vision, frequency, incontinence, diarrhea, cramps, dizziness, headache; not given with food (empty stomach only) |
Urinary Analgesics | treat symptoms caused by UTI |
Urinary anti-infectives: Septra and Bactrim; Cipro (ciprofloxacin) | used to treat UTIs; may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, rash, itching, diarrhea; obtain UA/C&S before starting antibiotic/urinary anti-infective |
