Vitamin B1 (Thiamine HCL) carbohydrate/glucose metabolism; nerve, muscle, heart function; treat alcoholism GI disease, cirrhosis; may cause hypotension, nausea, sweating, anaphylactic reaction, diarrhea, restlessness
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) production of serotonin and norepinephrine; protein/glucose metabolism and hemoglobin production; may cause drowsiness; do not give with Levodopa
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) growth, repair, development of all body tissue; promotes wound healing; maintenance of cartilage, bone, teeth; treat burns; assist in treating viral infections; may cause diarrhea, renal calculi
Vitamin B9 (folic acid) treat liver disease and alcoholism; may cause rash, flushing, nausea, loss of appetite, bloating, itching, sleep disturbance, depression, irritability, bronchospasms as allergic reaction
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol); Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) regulate immune system and neuromuscular function; absorption of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus; may cause kidney stones, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, thirst, confusion, bone pain, weight loss, frequent urination
Vitamin K (Mephyton) regulates calcium levels; produces prothrombin necessary for blood clotting and bone metabolism; decreases effectiveness of anticoagulants; may cause dizziness, rapid/weak pulse, hypotension, jaundice, SOB, decreased appetite, swelling, muscle stiffness
Feosol, Slow-Fe (ferrous sulfate) needed to make healthy RBCs; treat iron deficiency anemia; may cause black, tarry stools; do not crush; do not give with antacids; may cause nausea, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea
Potassium products: potassium chloride regulates fluid balance, muscle contractions, nerve signals, BP; give during or after meals with full glass of fluid; do not crush solid form; may cause confusion, cardiac arrhythmias, GI irritation
Calcium: Tums, Os-Cal (calcium carbonate) reduces acid in GI tract; strengthens bones and teeth; do not give with milk or milk products; calcium deposits may form in joints
Magnesium supports immune system; maintains normal nerve/muscle function; keeps heartbeat steady and bones strong; regulates blood glucose levels; monitor for low BP; may cause bloating, diarrhea, N/V, GI upset
