QMA

Anti-anxiety Drugs (Anxiolytics): Xanax (alprazolam); Klonopin (clonazepam); Buspar; Ativan treat various anxiety disorders; do not give with opioids; do not use with alcohol; may cause drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, impaired coordination, decreased respirations
Anti-psychotics (Neuroleptics): Thorazine (chlorpromazine); Haldol (haloperidol); Risperdal (risperidone); Seroquel (quetiapine); Abilify (aripiprazole) treat schizophrenia; short-term treatment for bipolar; prolonged use may cause tardive dyskinesia; monitor for worsening symptoms; may cause drowsiness, dizziness, slowness, dry mouth, restlessness, weight gain, constipation
Mood Stabilizers: Lithonate, Lithotabs (lithium); Depakote (divalproex) treat bipolar; monitor for symptoms of toxicity; may cause increased urination, lethargy, poor concentration, increased thirst, vomiting, diarrhea, weight gain, impaired memory
Anti-depressants (tricyclic): Elavil (amitriptyline) treat depression; must be given 1-4 weeks before reaching therapeutic effect; may cause seizures, heart irregularities, constipation, urinary retention, diarrhea, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, sweating, dizziness, restlessness, perspiration
Anti-depressants (SSRIs): Paxil (paroxetine); Lexapro (escitalopram); Zoloft; Prozac treats depression and anxiety; must be given 1-4 weeks before reaching therapeutic effect; may cause nausea, dry mouth, fatigue, seizures, heart irregularities, constipation, urinary retention, diarrhea, drowsiness, nervousness, dizziness
Anti-depressants (SNRIs) treat depression; must be given 1-4 weeks before reaching therapeutic effect; may cause nausea, dry mouth, fatigue, seizures, heart irregularities, dizziness, constipation, urinary retention, insomnia, sweating, weight gain
Anti-depressants (MAO Inhibitors): Nardil (phenelzine) treat severe depression; avoid foods high in tyramine; may cause hypertensive crisis, muscle tremors, heart irregularities, diarrhea, sweating, constipation, tardive dyskinesia, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia
Addiction Medication Reversal Agents (not given by QMA): Suboxone (methodone); Narcan (naloxone) reverse effects of medication taken in manner or dose other than prescribed; physician must be informed; may cause sleep apnea, enlarged prostate, liver disease, kidney disease
