What was the problem during his time of being president? Continuing inflation and recession as well as an energy crisis.
What was his new cabinet-level, Department of Energy? A concern with the U.S policies regarding energy & safety in nuclear material. Responsibilities include nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for Navy, energy conservation, radioactive waste disposal, & domestic energy production.
What was his new cabinet-level, Department of Education? Created by the Department of Education Organization Act. It divided the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services.
What was the major crisis that occured during his final year as president in 1979 which would also be the reason he was not elected for a second term? The Iran hostage crisis which was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the US. Sixty-six Americans were taken captive when Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, hostages were held for 444 days.
What were his major foreign affairs? Pursuing the Camp David Accords(peace treaty between Israel and Egypt), the Pananma Canal Treaties(gave Panama control of canal with US defense when needed), and the SALTII(nuclear arms treaty between US and Soviet Union)
What were his major domestic affairs? Established a national energy policy to deal with energy shortage, decontrolled domestic petroleum prices to stimulate production, reduced foreign oil imports by 50%,expanded the national park system, & prompted government efficiency through civil service
What were a few other things Carter did as president? His Chrysler Corporation Loan Guarantee Act bailed out Chrysler Corporation,he established full diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, bolstered the Social Security system, and decreased the unemployment rate.
What were the six steps in Jimmy Carter's energy plan? (First 3) 1.Never again allow 8.5 million barrels per day to be imported into the US 2.Commitment of funds & resources was given to develop energy from coal & shale 3.Energy security corporation was established to direct the new sources of energy

(Last 3) 4.Solar bank was established to finance these new sources for energy 5.Congress would be asked to require the nation's utilities to cut their power input by 50% 6.Congress would be asked to spend ten billion dollars on public mass transportation
