Rajput Kingdoms Formed after the fall of the Gupta. Hindu kingdoms led by leader of clans that were at war with each other. Formed in North India and Pakistan.
Delhi Sultanate Reigned from 13th-16th C Imposed Jizya. Muslims took over. Never organized an efficient beauacracy. Had difficult time imposing policies.
Proselytize Actively seek convert.
Caste System A class system that determines status. Was flexible and able to accommodate new comers.
Qutub Minar Rulers from Delhi Sultanate built an elaborate mosque on top of a Hindu temple. Got materials from Hindu shrines.
Urdu New language among the Muslims in south Asia. melded grammar of Hindi and vocabulary of Arabic and elements of Farsi (Persian. ) Official Pakistan language.
Bhakti Movement Started in Southern India Did not discriminate woman of low class. Appealing to lower class.
Srivijaya Empire (670-1025) was a Hindu kingdom based on Sumatra. It bult up its navy and prospered by charging fees for ships traveling between India and China.
Majapahit Empire (1293 - 1520) Based on Java had 98 tributaries at its height. Was Buddhist
Khmer Empire AKA Angkar Kingdom (802-1431). Near Mekong Rover did not depend on maritime prowess for power. Irrigated and drainage systems. One of most prosperous Kingdoms in Southeast Asia
Ankor Wat Constructed by rulers. Ornate and majestic Buddhist temple complex
Hinduism Polytheistic. temples and artwork full of pics of gods, caste system, recognize several sacred texts.
Islam Monotheistic. No visual representation of Allah, equality for all (would attract low class Hindus), recognize the Quaran.
Sufis Did missionary work for Southeast Asia. Could be Muslim and still honor local. deities.
