Describe the three theories for Reconstruction. State Suicide Theory, Conqured Province Theory, and Rebellion of Individuals
State Suicide Theory Charles Sumner- Insisted on meaures to guarantee the political and legal equality of Black Americans and to educate them for the responsibilites of freedom. Viewed as unorganized territories.
Conqured Provience Theory Thaddeus Stevens- Believed that political and legal rights for former slaves would be maning less if the blacks did not have economic independence. Viewed as a conqured provience.
Rebellion of Individuals Abraham Lincoln- The Civil War was merely a conflict between individuals and thus the president could use the pardoning power granted him by the consistution to restory the South to the union. Viewed as rebellious brothers. Obey all F. laws and pledge
Plessy vs. Ferguson It was a violation to the 14th amendment to provide "Seperate but Equal" facilities for Blacks.
Jim Crow Laws Started in Tennessee and made it illegal for blacks and whites to ride in the same railway cars. It also set a precedent for future organizations in public facilities and transportation.
Four reasons for graft and corruption in the postwar years Civil War-Cost Government Growth-Too big to control, easy to hide corruption Industry Growth-Employee didn't know boss, easy to hide corruption President Grant-lacked in experience
Custer's Last Stand George Custer and the 7th Calcary went out to move the Sioux indians out of the Black Hills. The indians led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull didn't like the 7th calvary so they killed 264 men including George Custer. Left the bodies mutilated. Savage-view

Three ways immigration affected American workers 1.Wages went down. Immigrants worked for less 2.Rent increased because there was more of a demand for houses 3.Loss of jobs, the immigrants were taking all the open spots
Why did Americans organize labor unions in the late 1800's They decided to organize labor unions because it helped congress set a law about an 8 hour work day. It helped meet their needs: fair wages, shortned work days, better working conditions, restrictions on immigration and child labor.
