Taxing the People Britain was using the American colonies for financial gain. Colonies did not like having a foreign power dictate what they could do.Heavy taxes are levied on the colonies.Rebellion and independence started to brew.
Pressure Builds Colonies pressure had been building against the English crown for years.Boston Massacre was what helped start the fire of revolution.Not all colonists wanted to break away from England; some were still loyal to the crown.
The Revolution Fighting commenced on June 17,1775 between the colonists and British troops.July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was written and the colonies officially broke from England.King George III had to make the decision to give in or crush the rebellion.
Fighting Continues Colonists achieved small victories at first and got help from the French.British troops moved to attack Virginia, General Washington launched a major attack.win showed Britain that this would be a costly war.
Treading in New Water With Britain defeated, now the states could come together and form a new nation.The main problem was how to run the country. State run or national government.After the Constitutional Convention, a federal government would be formed.
Building a Nation With the Constitution written now the nation was born. Now there would be three branches of government to balance the power.George Washington became the first president of the United States.Further transitions between presidents would be peaceful.
Fighting Continues 2 Britain signed the Treaty of Paris, formally recognizing American independence.
