Alamo An abandoned mission near San Antonio that became an important battle site in the Texas Revolution.
Battle of San Jacinto The Texans captured Santa Anna and forced him to sign a treaty giving Texas Independence.
Manifest Destiny Obvious fate, to settle land all the way to the Pacific Ocean in order to spread democracy.
Vaqueros Cowboys, managed the large heards of cattle and sheep.
Californios Californian colonists
Bear flag revolt The Americans declared California to be an Independent nation.
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo US and Mexico signed this which officially ended the war and forced Mexico to turn over much of its northern territory to the US.
Gadsden Purchase The US government paid Mexico 10 million dollars and in exchange, they recieved the southern parts of what are now Arizona and New Mexico.
Donner Party A group of western travellers who went to California but were stranded in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during winter.

Prospect Search for gold
Placer Minors Used pans or other devices to wash gold nuggets out of loose rock or gravel.
