Suppository A form of medicine that is inserted into the rectum, vagina, or urethra; absorbed into the bloodstream; ex: glycerin to treat constipation or acetaminophen to treat a fever
methyl salicylate liniment topical application route; used to treat minor aches/pains of the muscles/joints
esomeprazole (Nexium) used to treat conditions where there is too much acid in the stomach (ex: GERD, gastric ulcers, esophagitis)
loperamide (Imodium A-D) used to control & relieve the symptoms of acute diarrhea; helps stop diarrhea by slowing down the movements of the intestines.
metformin (Glucophage) used to treat high blood sugar levels that are caused by type 2 diabetes (anti-diabetic medication)
zolpidem (Ambien) used to treat insomnia (trouble sleeping); CNS depressant; schedule IV substance - sedative
ondasetron (Zofran) antiemetic; used to prevent nausea & vomiting
clonazepam (Klonopin) sedative used to treat seizures, panic disorder, & anxiety; benzodiazepine; schedule IV controlled substance
chlorpropamide sulfonylurea drug class; increases the release of insulin from the pancreas which lowers your blood sugar--no longer available in the USA.
amlodipine (Norvasc) a calcium channel blocker; can treat high blood pressure & chest pain (angina)
alprazolam ( Xanax) a benzodiazepine sedative used to treat anxiety & panic disorder; schedule IV drug; high potency
lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil) ACE inhibitor; used to treat high blood pressure & heart failure; can reduce the risk of death after a heart attack; works by blocking a substance in the body that causes the blood vessels to tighten; lowers blood pressure
antiemetic a drug that prevents or reduces nausea & vomiting
antitussive used to prevent or relieve a cough
antilipemic a substance used to treat hyperlipidemia (cholesterol)
antipyretic used to prevent or reduce fever
anticonvulsant used to prevent or reduce the severity of epileptic fits or other convulsions (seizures)
half-life the time it takes for the amount of a drug's active substance in your body to reduce by half; used to estimate how long it takes for a drug to be removed from your body
