Type and Crossmatch Test | detailed test usually for clients needing blood transfusions and includes testing for ABO groups and Rh factor |
RBC count | measures the # of circulating RBCs in cm of peripheral venous blood |
Hgb | identifies amount of hemeglobin in RBC |
Hct | % of RBCs in the blood |
WBC | Identifies infection (normal is 5-10 thousand) |
WBC diff | Identifies type of infection by counting neutrophils, lymphocytes, etc. |
Platelet Count | indicates the client's capacity for hemostasis |
Blood Smear | Examines RBCs for size, shape, color, & structure. WBC diff can be done. # & appearance of platelets is monitored. |
PT | Amt of time it takes the blood to clot. (<12") |
PTT | Monitors pathway of clot formation. Normal is 60-90". |
APTT | Monitors pathway of clot formation but uses different chemicals accelerate/activate the clotting factors. Normal is 25-27" |
Bleed Time | Detects platelet disorders, evaluates for capillary defects, and determines the client's ability to stop bleeding. |
