mood | the feelings of the reader |
tone | how a writer feels about a subject, event, or character |
context clue | a hint in a sentence or passage that helps a reader understand the meaning of an unfamiliar word |
simile | comparison using like or as |
repetition | when a word, phrase, or statement is repeated multiple times to create an effect or emphasize a point |
parallelism | using similar words, phrases, or sentence structure to emphasize similar ideas in a sentence; making writing clear, concise, and easy to read (ie: listing events together) |
hyperbole | extreme exaggeration |
claim | main point or statement made in a text |
author's perspective | the way an author views a topic or idea; how the author presents that information through their writing |
