Introduction to Dental Imaging Examinations
Term | Definition |

Dentulous | areas that exhibit tooth, tooth bearing areas |
Edentulous | area without teeth |
Pariapical receptor | used for pariapical imaging (one arch at a time, full crown and root) |
Bitewing receptor | used for interproximal examination and both arches |
Occlusal receptor | used for occlusal examination (patient bites on full receptor and some of receptor is extraoral) |
Intraoral receptor | placed inside mouth to examine teeth/ supporting structures |
Extraoral receptor | placed outside mouth (panoramic imaging and cephiomethe) |
Maxilla | upper jaw |
Mandible | lower jaw |
Occlusion | to close or to bite |
Direct Imaging | Charge Couple Device is most common digital receptor is wireless |
