Enfuvirtide: Pharmacological action | Blocks HIV from attaching to and entering CD4T cells limiting HIV spread. |

Enfuvirtide: Contraindications/ Precautions | Contraindications: Severe liver disease, Lactation, allergy to enfuvirtide, clients who have both HIV and hepatitis B infections Precautions: Mild liver disease, Kidney impairments, Bacterial pneumonia. |
Enfuvirtide: Nursing Interventions | Rotate injection sites, bring solution to room temp, monitor for bacterial pneumonia, monitor for systemic hypersensitivity reaction |
Enfuvirtide: Administration | Subcutaneous twice each day |
Enfuvirtide: Client education | Report tenderness, discoloration, swelling, or hardened area. Report cough, fever, or shortness of breath to provider |
Maraviroc(Selzentry): Class | CCR5 antagonists |
Maraviroc: Pharmacological action | Prevents HIV from entering lymphocytes by binding to CCR5 on cell membranes. |
Maraviroc: Therapeutic Use | Treats HIV infection in combination with other antiretroviral medications |
Maraviroc: Complications | Respiratory symptoms, CNS effects, Hepatoxicity, Pseudomembranous colitis |
Maraviroc: Contraindications/ Precautions | Contraindications: Pt's that don't have CCR5-tropic HIV 1, Current findings of hepatitis, Allergy to maraviroc, Pt's beginning first treatment Precautions: Liver or renal impairment, cardiac disease, older adults |
Maraviroc: Interactions | Protease inhibitors and delavirdine raise maraviroc levels. Rifampin, efavirenz, phenytoin, and St. John's wort decrease maraviroc levels |
