Hematoma | A reddened, swollen area where blood collects under the skin. |
Hemoconcentration | An increase in the ratio of formed elements to plasma caused by leaving the tourniquet on too long or too tight. It can alter some test results. |
Hemolysis | Can occur if the tourniquet is too tight or left on too long. Destruction of red blood cells can alter test results. |
Palpation | Feeling |
Petechiae | Small red spots on the skin, caused by a tourniquet that is too tight. |
Requisition | Form specifying which tests must be run or which samples to collect. |
