Line | A single row of words in a poem, like a sentence in prose, but often shorter and sometimes incomplete. |
Meter | The pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry that creates its rhythm. |
Open Form (noun) | A type of poetry that does not follow specific rules for structure, rhyme, or meter, also known as free verse. |
Poetic Form (noun) | The specific style or structure of a poem, such as a sonnet, haiku, or limerick, that follows certain rules. |
Poetic Structure (noun) | How a poem is organized, including its lines, stanzas, rhyme, and rhythm. |
Rhyme (noun) | When words have the same or similar ending sounds, like "cat" and "hat." |
Rhyme Scheme (noun) | The pattern of rhymes at the end of each line in a poem, often marked with letters, like ABAB. |
Rhythm (noun) | The flow or beat of a poem, created by the arrangement of stressed and unstressed syllables. |
Stanza (noun) | A group of lines in a poem, separated from others by a space, like a paragraph in prose. |
