Acetylcholine Physi Effects: Sleep/wake cycle, signals muscles to become active. Relationship: Decreased in Alzheimers and Parkinson's Diseases
Dopamine Controls complex movements, cognition, motivation,and pleasure. Reg emotional response. Increased in schizophrenia and mania. Decreased in depression and Parkinson's.
Norepinephrine Affects attention, learning, memory, and reg of mood, sleep, and wakefulness. Decreased in depression. Increase in schizophrenia, mania, and anxiety.
Serotonin Affects sleep and wakefulness, especially falling asleep. Affects mood and thought processes. Though disorders in schizophrenia. Decreased in depression. Possibly decreased in anxiety and OCD.
GABA Amino acid that modulates that modulates other NT. Decreased in anxiety and schizophrenia.
Glutamate Amino acid that controls opening of ion channels for calcium, affecting NT. Implicated in schizophrenia, increased in Alzheimers, neurotoxicity results from overexposure to glutamate
