Judicial Review The right of the Supreme Court to determine if a law violates the Constitution.
Judicial Branch The branch of government, including the federal court system, that interprets the nation's laws.
Secession Withdrawal from the Union.
Why was Marbury called a midnight judge? Marbury was appointed as a judge on the last night of Adam's presidency.
Why was Marbury upset with James Madison? James Madison refused to give him his commission.
Explain the decision of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court did not allow Marbury to be judge.
How did the case Marbury V. Create a greater power for the Supreme Court? It gave the Corut the power of Judicial Review.
Describe the argument of McCulloch v. Maryland. McCulloch refused to pay a Maryland taz dealing with the National Bank.
Why was McCulloch v. Maryland an important case in the history of the USA. It made the National Band legal and made sure that state law would not interfere with National Law.
Why did Dred Scott claim he should be freed? He had lived in free territories.
Explain why Justice Taney declared that Scott should remain a slave.
