clinical manifestations of hearing loss tinnitus, innability to hear in groups, turning up volume on tv, changes in personality( think people are talking about them), unaware of surroundings, decreased ability to protect oneself, feeling of isolation, inability to communicate
half of population __ and older have some sort of hearing loss 50 and the cause is unknown
changes of the ear include; atrophy of tympanic membrane, cells degenerate, family heredity, and presbycusis
factors affecting hearing loss lifelong exposure to loud noises (jets, music, machinery), medications (aminoglycosides, ASA, quinine), psychogenic factors and other diseases such as diabetes
