Define digestion. the breakdown process
Define absorption the transfer of nutrients into the circulation

What is the digestive tract? continuous passageway where food is taken and terminated at the anus
What is assessory organs? necessary for the digestive process, but not a direct part of the digestive tract; release substances into digestive tract (these organs are salivary glands, liver, gallbladder and pancreas
Where is most of the digestive organs housed? The abdominopelvic cavity
What does the walls of the digestive walls contain? mucus-secreted cells
What is sub mucosa? layer of connective tissue beneath the mucosa-contains blood vessels and some of the nerves that help regulate digestive activity-has many glands that produce mucus to protect that organ from the highly acidic material it receives from the stomach
What are the 2 layers of smooth muscle? smooth muscle has two layers; an inner layer of circular fibers and an outer layer of longitudinal fibers and serous membrane is the outermost layer; a thin moist tissue composed of simple squamous epithelium and loose connective tissue
