A fracture in which one side of a bone is broken while the other is bent. greenstick fracture

A fracture in which bone is broken, splintered or crushed into a number of pieces. comminuted fracture
one in which one fragment is firmly driven into the other. impacted fracture
one which does not entirely destroy the continuity of the bone. incomplete fracture
fracture of the lower end of the radius, the lower fragment being displaced backward Colles' fracture
a bone break in which the center fragment contained by two cracks forms a triangle. butterfly fracture
one involving the entire cross section of the bone. complete fracture
A fracture caused by the compression of one bone, especially a vertebra, against another. compression fracture
a crack extending from a surface into, but not through, a long bone. fissure fracture
A fracture in which the fragments do not separate because the line of break is so fine. hairline fracture
a slanted fracture of the shaft along the bone's long axis. oblique fracture
one in which the bone has been twisted apart. spiral fracture
the principal fragments in a reduced fracture are overriding. Slow union or nonunion results. unstable fracture
a bone break in which several large bone fragments separate from the main body of a fractured bone. The ends of the fragments may pierce the skin, as in an open fracture, or may be contained within the skin, as in a closed fracture. segmental fracture
A small part broken off or detached. fragmental fracture
A fracture occurring in two sections of the same bone. double fracture
a closed fracture in which the soft tissue surrounding the bone is severely damaged. complex fracture
