Pediculosis

What Lice. Puritis, excoriation and inflammation are all symptoms. DX is visual or seeing nits on clothing.
Treatment Permethrin (Nix) OTC treatment, apply and put favorite movie in while combing for nits. Elimite this RX you apply and leave on for 6-12 hours and then shampoo and comb.
Treatment Lindane 1% (most popular RX) shampoo as directed and comb. Malathion is no longer used due to neurotoxicity. Eyelashes are treated with petroleum jelly tid for 5-7 days and washing with baby shampoo.
Treatment The Harvard olive oil treatment: apply oil and leave in hair for one hour then comb and shampoo. This is repeated for seven days, then once a week for 2 more weeks to ensure all nits are gone thus eliminating the infestation.
Treatment Hair Fairies – A group of industrious women who founded a service using natural products, no chemical or pesticides and most insurances will cover a portion of the cost.
Body Lice treatment: Elimite and improved hygiene, cleaning all clothes and bedding. This is very frustrating to treat due to the work requirement in cleaning everything. Lindane or Elimite can be used to treat pubic lice.
