Constitutional Amendments and Descriptions

1 Congress must not interfere with freedom of religion, speech or press, assembly, and petition.
2 The people may bear arms.
3 Soldiers may not be arbitrarily quartered on the people.

5 The individual is guarenteed certain rights when on trial and the right to life, liberty, and property.
6 An accused person has important rights (right to speedy and public trial).
7 The rules of common law are recognized.
8 Excessive fines and unusual punishments are forbidden.
9 The people retain rights not here enumerated.
10 Powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved to the states and the people.
11 The federal courts have no authority in suits by citizens against a state.
12 Changes in manner of electing president and vice president; procedure when no presidential candidate receives electoral majority; procedure when no vice presidential candidate receives electoral majority.
13 Slavery forbidden.
14a Ex-slaves made citizens; U.S. citizenship primary. When a state denies citizens the vote, its representation shall be reduced.
14b Certain persons who have been in rebellion are ineligible for federal and state office. Debts incurred in aid of rebellion are void. Enforcement.
15 Black males are made voters.
16 Congress has power to lay and collect income taxes.
17 Senators shall be elected by popular vote.
18 Sale of manufacture of intoxicating liquors is forbidden.
19 Women guarenteed the right to vote.
20 Presidential, vice presidential, and congressional terms of office begin in January. New meeting date for Congress. Emergency presidential and vice presidential succession.
21 18th Amendment (Prohibition) repealed. Local laws honored.
22 Presidential term is limited.
23 Presidential electors for the District of Columbia. Enforcement.
24 Payment of poll tax or other taxes NOT to be prerequisite for voting in federal elections. Enforcement.
25 Vice president to become president. Successor to vice president. Vice president to serve for disabled president. Procedure for disqualifying or requalifying president.
26 Ballot for eighteen-year-olds.
27 Congress not allowed to increase its current pay.
