Glasgow Coma Scale A scale used to determine a patient's LOC. A rating from 3-15 of the patient's ability to open eyes, respond verbally, and move normally, primarily used with trauma or stroke
informed consent The patient has the right to be informed of all risk. It ensures PT safety by the patient will have no unwanted procedures. The surgeon has to get it signed.
intraoperative Begins when the patient enters the surgical suite and ends at the time of transfer to the postanesthesia recovery area, same day surgery, or ICU.
IV conscious sedation Used for short procedures, can be used as an adjunct to general anesthesia
