Nonexperimental research (2 categories)... includes 2 broad categories: descriptive research and ex post facto/correlational research
Descriptive research (nonexperimental)... aims to describe situations, experiences, and phenomena as they exist
Ex post facto (nonexperimental) or correlation research... "in the past"...examines relationships among variables
Experimental research... includes experimental manipulation of variables utilizing randomization and a control group to test effects of an intervention or experiment
Quasi-experimental research... involves manipulation of variables but "lacks" a comparison group or randomization
3 types of research... ~nonexperimental ~experimental ~Qualitative
Qualitative research... includes case studies, open-ended questions, field studies, participant "observaton" and "ethnographic studies", interview techniques are used...common themes
Liability is... actions resulting in actual or potential harm to a patient
Negligence is... failure of an individual to do what a reasponsable person would do, resulting in injury to the patient
Malpractice is... providing poor care: ~professional misconduct ~unreasonable lack of skill ~illegal/immoral conduct ~other allegations resulting in harm ot a patient
Assault is... an unlawful act that places another person, without that person's consent, in fear of immediate bodily harm or battery; "fear"
Battery is... unauthorized "touching" of another person; Medical battery occurs when a patient is treated without informed consent; "striking"
Defamation is communication that causes someone to suffer a damaged reputation, the 2 types are... ~libel: distributed written material ~slander: spoken to someone other than defamed party
Medicare part A covers... everyone 65+, inpatient hospital and SNF
T/F: Medicare Part B is a supplemental insurance where recipients have to pay a premium True
Providers are reimbursed ____% for services rendered to patients with Medicare 85
Medicare Part D covers... prescription drugs; monthly premium required
Nonmaleficence means... the duty to do no harm
Utilitarianism means... the right act is the one that produces the greatest good for the greatest number
Beneficence means... the duty to prevent harm and promote good
Justice means... the duty to be fair
Fidelity means... the duty to be faithful
Veracity means... the duty to be truthful
Autonomy means... the duty to respect an individual's thoughts and actions
