when screening for abuse make sure you are alone with them
if someone abused can't leave help develop safety plan
reasons why women stay in abusive environment religous conviction, children together, fear of abuser, still in love, optimistic, think it is there fault,
crosses all socioeconomic, homo/hetero, sexual and teenage dating all subject to abuse
tend to have a lot of trouble getting out of abusive situations young girls
signs of abuse child will lie out of fear, visit to emergency room delayed or story not matching injury,
elders difficult to tell if abused because frail, could be scarred into silence, and dementia
all abuse must be reported except domestic
autism withdrawal of child into self fantasy world, temper tantrums, infancy to 3 years old is when you can notice, attachment to one toy
autism lack speech, social skills, and behavior, flat affect, mood swings, repetitive self stimulating movements,
autism need consistency in care
no link to vaccines autism
s/s occur before age 7, but dx is after 7 with ADHD
6 symptoms, over 6 months, in 2 different environments ADHD
with ADHD give clear simple directions
treatments affective for ADHD behavior therapy, meds, and family
ADHD need consistency
ritalin used for ADHD
s/e of ritilin jittery
anorexia watch while eating and one hour after
postpartum depression last longer then 4 weeks
baby blues mood disorder, not a clinical depression, self limit
causes of baby blues lifestyle changes, financial changes, body image concern, isolation
anxiety is a problem when it impairs your function
benzo's ativan, xanex, can cause addiction
anorexia- be skinny and think your fat is called dysmorphia
a client has disturbed body image..outcome criteria would be percieving ideal body weight
bulimia wght is normal
most important with bulimia oral care
loss of knowledge, ability to identify 5 senses without memory loss agnosia
absence of speech, difficulty communicating aphasia
involuntary repetition of words or phrases ex:I had a bad day, bad day palilalia
inability to do something on command even though it is understood apraxia
can function normally, but no memory amnesia
delirium is usually tactile or visual

delirium can last days to months, usually runs its course in 5-7 days
only in females, stop talking, rare, usually around 6-18 months retz
can talk, 0 social/relationship skills aspergers
appropiate outcome for someone with advanced alzheimers minimal anxiety attacks
have to be concerned about their self care with delirium
late stage dementia concerned with nutrition
aricept med used with alzheimers
someone with OCD try to decrease time spent
cause is unknown, hereditary alzheimers
s/s of alzheimers wondering, agitation, tangles in brain, enlarged ventricles, decreased acetacholyine, plaque in arteries
characteristics of abusive partner low self esteem, poor problem solving and social skills, emotionally immature, jealous and possessive
always tell victims of abuse its not their fault
goal of autism demand consistency and maximize potential
tension associated with day to day living mild anxiety
focus on immediate concerns; perceptual field narrowed moderate anxiety
focus on specific detail: perceptual field greatly narrowed severe anxiety
sense of dread of terror: disorganization of the personality panic
nsg interventions for anxiety slow controlled breathing, distraction such as talking with others, physical activity, preforming repetitive activity
recurrent thoughts obsessions
repetitive behaviors compulsions
with OCD if you stop ritual it will increase anxiety
before ADHD dx rule out any medical dx
nsg intervention for ADHD child safety, simplify directions
bulimia is caused by depression and anxiety
psychological issues with anorexia power and control, slim cultural idea
nsg dx for anorexia disturbed body image, imbalanced nutrition;less then, ineffective coping
occurs around the 4th week or anytime within the first year of having baby, more bad days then good postpartum depression
if mother has thoughts of hurting herself or baby big concern
disturbance of cognition with allusions or hallucinations delirium
