aggressive Describes an attitude characterized by the angry or hostile and forceful expression of feelings or opinions.
assault The threat of touching in an injurious way.
assertive Describes an attitude characterized by the calm, firm expression of feelings or opinions.
battery An unlawful touching of a person without consent.
chart An extensive compilation of information; the medical record of a patient's care.
charting The process of adding information to a document or medial record.
defamation of character Disclosure of information that reflects negatively on a person's reputation.
empathy A sensitivity to the needs of others that allows one to meet those needs constructively.
ethics Rules that apply values and moral standards to activities within a profession to define professional behavior.
ethnic Nationality characteristics; distinctive of the ways of living built up by a group of people.
false imprisonment The unjustifiable detention of a person against his or her will.
informed consent The written acceptance of any procedure that is considered experimental or that involves substantial risk.
intentional misconduct An action that violates the law or a professional code of ethics and was committed knowingly.
invasion of privacy The failure to maintain confidentiality of information or the improper exposure or touching of the patient's body.
libel The malicious spreading of written information that results in defamation of character or loss of reputation.
malpractice An act of negligence in the context of the relationship between a professional person and a patient or client.
morals Beliefs or principles based on familial and societal standards that influence a person's actions.
negligence The omission of reasonable care or caution.
reasonably prudent person The standard requiring that a person perform as any reasonable person would perform under similar circumstances.
respondeat superior The legal doctrine which states that the employer is liable for employees' negligent acts that occur in the course of their work.
rule of personal responsibility The rule which states that each individual is liable for his or her own negligent conduct.
slander The malicious spreading of spoken or verbal information that results in defamation of character or loss of reputation.
values The priorities that are placed on the significance of moral concepts.
