s/s of hiatal hernia heartburn;feeling of fullness;discomfort;pain;regurgitation or vomiting;dysphagia;bleeding
management of hiatal hernia small frequent meals minimize the liquid;elevate the head of bed while eating and 30 TO A HOUR after eating;give antacids after meals and at bedtime and give histamine H2 receptor antagonists to control esophageal reflux;
with hiatal hernia you should avoid: anticholinergics,vigorous coughing,tight clothes around waist,sharp forward bending,high seasoned food and fatty foods,alcohol,smoking,caffeine,chocolate,carbonate and acidic beverages,avoid nightime snacks,but try lose weight obesity put pressure on Abd.
Diagnostic test: Chest x-ray;Barium swallow(upper gi);endoscopy
