QuestionAnswer
Team A group of people working together for a common purpose
Project Team A group formed within a company to serve a common goal
Functional Team A team that focuses on major specific area of a business – accounting, marketing, or human resources, for example
Cross – Functional Team A team that is made up of members from a variety of areas of the company
Virtual Team A team whose members are in different locations and communicate through all forms of information technology
Telecommuting A process that allows virtual team members to work from a home office and communicate through all forms of information technology
Virtual Office An office established electronically
Synergy The idea that a group of pople working together can do better than if all the people worked individually - the whole is greater than the sum of parts
Task Force A team established for a set period of time or until the team achieves its purpose
Autonomous Team A team that has no established leader - also knows as self-managed teams
Decentralized Decision-making Decision-making that occurs at all levels of the company, not just at the upper or management levels
Constructive Conflict Conflict that leads to creativity and improved decision-making
Destructive Conflict Conflict that results in little getting accomplished and may also involve loud, disruptive disagreements
Groupware Software that allows business project teams to work together electronically, for example, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes
E-Mail Client Email software that allows connectivity to the internet, for example, microsoft outlook
Internet Telephony using a computer equipped with a microphone and sound card to talk to another person in a remote location over the Internet Also knows as Wive Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)
Wireless Data Device Devices that allow sending and receiving e-mail, browsing of the Internet from a handheld device - i.e Blackberry
Whiteboard The display area in data conferencing that allows sharing and revising documents or files
Virtual Meeting A meeting where the participants are in different locations and communicating over the Internet
Real Time Instantaneous communication with no delay - MSN is an example
Personal Digital Assistant Small electric device with many of the capabilities of a desktop computer
Production Department The area of the business that create the product or service
Virtual Enterprise Businesses that exist completely on-line. They have no head office or main production facility
Marketing Department The area of the business responsible for the systematicf planning, implementation and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring together buyers and sellers
