What is KCC's Nursing Program philosophy and framework? Gordan's FHP, quality education, people are social, adaptable and able to influence their environment. Holistic care to achieve dynamic state of human functioning (health). Nursing promotes, maintains, or restores health and supports death with dignity.
How do NANDA and Nursing Interventions fit inot the framework? Nursing Process taught to PN and AD nursing students to apply to structured and unstructured health care settings as able.
How are the roles of LPN and RN alike? Both use the nursing process, delegate to subordinates, document and care for clients in the acute and community settings.
Where are the major differences in those two roles? RN can administer IV medications, work independently without supervision within their scope of practice and use critical thinking skills. The PN cannot!
Can an LPN function without and RN in any situation? LPN's can work under the supervison of an MD.
Where are the Iowa legal details of Nursing roles available? Iowa State Board of Nursing Practice Acts
How are the ANA's Standards different from the Iowa Practice Act? ANA relates the ideal situations and practice preferences of nurses while the IA Nursing Practice Act relates the real limititaions and rules for daily nursing care and job performance required for IA
How is the nursing process guide used at KCC the same as the Pracice Act? It includes the 5 steps to the nursing process= assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Who sets the ideal standards? ANA
Who sets the minimum standards? IA State Boards of Nursing as governed by the IA legislature
What standards are more ideal than KCC teaches? ANA is - KCC is more rigorous than the IA State Board of Nursing
What is the role of the APRN? Advance practice nurses have a Master's Degree in a specialty and can perform many of the same functions as a physician including writing RX's.
Clinical Specialist have what degree? Has a Master's education, occupational nursing, school nursing and cannot write perscriptions.
How are you managing you stressors in your life? Think of some for test.....ie: exercising 3x wk.
How can a staff nurse assist with the research process that PhD and other nurses conduct? Data collection is the main task of staff nurses. They may also assist with the assessment of date(statistics) but do not usually draw conclusions or design the study
Is there institutional research that could affect a staff nurse? QA in every facility - test new equiptment, assis in developing pathways for patients and staff, change/update charting form
What are the phases of the nursing process? Assessment, Diagnosis,Planning,Implementation, Evaluation
What are the priniciples of care planning used by KCC? ADPIE
Can a nurse wtite "unknown etiology" when there is definitely a problem present? No, when there is an actual diagnosis the fefining characteristics have been met. EX: Impaired Skin Integrity, there is something to see - destruction of skin layers
What is clustering? Grouping data together by similarities
What is the criteria for goals? Measureable, clear, concise, client oriented, evidenced-based
What is the criteria for nurses orders? Nurse oriented, timed, specific, aimed at reaching goal
Evaluation should be based on what? Evidence of goal met or not met.
What is a risk diagnosis? The risk diagnosis has a possibility of having the defining characteristics happen in the future.
What is an actual diagnosis? Actual diagnosis has met the defining characteristics
