Declaration of Independence Document that defined what colonists believed to be their rights, complaints they had against King George III, and declared the colonies free and independent.

Lord Dunmore's Proclamation A statement that promised freedom to any slave who fought for the British.
Battle of Trenton On Christmas night, Washington and 2400 soldiers silently crossed the icy Delaware River and marched towards Trenton. The suprise worked.It lasted 2 hours and patriots captured more than 900 Hessians with 5 American casualties.
Battle of Princeton Patriots left campfires burning while they sneaked up and circled the British troops and attacked from behind the next morning. Patriots drove British forces back.
Battle of Brandywine Creek British Howe heard about victory at Ticonderoga so he headed toward Philadelphia. British meet Washington's troops and because of a miscommunication of the Americans it lead to victory for British. Continental Army allowed to retreted
Battle of Saratoga British Burgoyne's badly outnumbered troops clashed with Patriots. Burgoyne suffered a major defeat to Patriots under Generals Horati Gates and Benedict Arnold.
Battle of Vincennes Along Wasbash river Patriot Clark captured villages and then convinced Indians to be neutral in the war. British captured Vincennes without fight but no Indian support. Clark retook it in a bloody fight. It was back in Patriots hands.

Battle of Yorktown Patriots held Yorktown in a state of siege for weeks. British navy were held back by French fleet. French also prevented Cornwallis's army from being rescued from seige. Patriots attacked and Cornwallis surrendered
Treaty of Paris of 1783 Continental Congress began serious peace negotiations with British. Jay, Adams, Laurens and Franklin who won French support took 2 years to work out treaty. British recognized United State.
