What are the signs of normal respiratory patterns? | 1. rate: 10-20 breath per minute. 2. Depth: 500-800 ml of air 3. Ratio of pulse vs. perspiration: 4:1 |
What are the (6) abnormal respiratory patterns? | 1. Sigh 2. tachypnea 3. brradypnea 4. hyperventilation 5. hypoventilation 6. cheyne-stokes respiration |
Sigh? | an abnormal condition without origin with a normal elevated amount of air caused by the expanding alveoli in our bronchus. |
Tachypnea | rapid shallow breathing, increase rate of pulse and breath per minute, normal response to fever, fear, or exercise. |
bradypnea | shallow breathing, decrease of pulse and breath per minute, usually drug induced. |
hyperventilation | (fast abnormal breathing) very deep breath with increase of depth of ventilation with exhaling carbon dioxide. usually caused by diabetics or keoacidosis; from high blood sugar. |
hypoventilation | - an abnormal very slow, shallow breath. Long pauses between each rep, very irregular respiratory patterns. |
cheyne-stokes respiration | - an abnormal unsual pattern that repeats itself with each breath a different depth of respiration. even shows Apnea, very sick patient, with increase chance of organ failure. |
Apnea | part of the respiratory pattern that is abnormal whom don't breath for a long pause. |
Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea | difficult breathing that awakes a patient from sleep. these people have a hard time catching their own breath. |
platypnea | a person has difficult breathing while sitting or standing ( posture or position) but breath normal in a supine position. |
orthopnea | has difficulty breathing in a supine or prone position but breath comfortable in a sitting or standing position. |
dyspnea | difficulty of breathing because of shortness of breath. Respiration has less depth. |
What are the four difficult breathing respiratory patterns? | 1. paroxymsal nocturnal dyspena, 2. platypnea 3. orthopnea 4. dyspnea |
When doing a respiratory inspection what is the process; anterior? | 1. face 2. nail 3. chest configuration 4. transverse side |
When doing a respiratory inspection what is the process; posterior? | 1. chest configuration 2. spinous process 3. anteroposterior transverse diameter 4. position of person 5. skin color and condition |
