Chapter 2 Vocab for the Cultural Landscape

Crude birth rate | The total number of live births in a year for every 1000 people alive in society |
Crude death rate | The total number of deaths in a year for every 1000 people alive in the society |
Demographic Transition | The process of change in a society's population from high CBRs and CDRs and low NIR to low CDRs and CBRs and a higher total population |

Dependency Ratio | The number of people under the age of 15 and over the age of 64 compared to the number of people active in the labor force. |
Doubling time | The amount of time needed to double a population, assuming there was a constant NIR |
Ecumene | Places that are habitable, where people have permanently settled |
Epidemiology | Medical Science concerned with incidence, distribution, and control of diseases that are prevalent among a population at a special time and are produced by some special causes not generally found in the affected locality |

Total Fertility Rate (TFR) | The average number of children a woman will have in her child bearing years (15 - 49) |
Zero Population growth (ZPG) | A decline of TFR to the point where the NIR equals zero |
